Jennifer Peedom’s Sherpa was a feature documentary about the death of sixteen Sherpas in an avalanche on Everest, who were hauling lines of hobbyist climbers to the summit. Her production  was based on more than a decade’s work on high altitude films and left us with a basic question. Why do people climb mountains, especially when the surrounding communities see them as sacred?
