Curating a Film Festival in a Developing Nation

What do you think about when someone mentions the Solomon Islands? It’s in the Pacific somewhere right? Didn’t they have a coup there a few years ago? And are there are still some Australian troops based there?
That was about the extent of my understanding of the Solomon Islands before I agreed to take up a role curating the film and photography programs of the 11th Festival of Pacific Arts in July 2012. The post was a volunteer position as part of Australian Government’s volunteer program (Australian Volunteers for International Development).
