After its debut on Monday evening, the ratings claimed for The Pacific made waves of varying sizes.

AGB Nielsen’s 5+ data put the average number of viewers at 507,060, bringing it in fifth for the night, behind One News (693,190), Coastwatch (640,000), Medical Emergency (577,030) and Shortland Street (545,370).

However, the Herald trumpeted “almost a million viewers – more than 30% of the people who were watching television on Monday night”, putting the number at 954,700. This number is the “reach”, which counts all viewers who tuned in, for however short a period of time.
