When a respected industry festival has no Australian winners for a long, long time, it becomes a fortress to be stormed. And the eventual winner gets a very big grin. The festival is The Rose d”Or for ”entertainment television programming” in Lucerne. The winning programs are ”We Can Be Heroes” and ”Girl in a Mirror”. The happy broadcaster is the ABC.

Two ABC TV programs have been recognised by the prestigious international television awards, the Rose d’Or, at this year’s festival held in Lucerne, Switzerland. Sunday morning’s announcement (April 30, Australian EST) marks the first time Australian television programs have won any award since the Event’s inception in 1961.
