Box Office: Alita is a savage angel while What Men Want has viewers intrigued

A slow weekend as fans wait breathlessly for the Oscars next Monday. Alita is the only really big, noisy English language film around so more refined chancers have their fingers crossed.

Alita: Battle Angel started another series of superhero flicks by laying out the origin story. It made $4.15m in its first week off 453 screens at $8351/screen. In the US it topped the list in what Box Office Mojo calls ‘the worst President’s Day Weekend in fifteen years’. It took $50.3m in the US and $130m around the world against a budget of $240m. It has no China release so far.
