Box Office 24 June 2019 – family blockbusters overwhelm market

Top End Wedding won't go far beyond $5.1m which is way below the figures for a popular indigenous film of even five years ago. Blockbusters and Netflix continue to attack.

Toy Story 4 did $8.5m in its first weekend on 586 screens taking us back into the giddy world of $13,700/screen. Next on the list is The Secret Life of Pets 2, which made half that screen average on half the number of screens. But it still ended up with $6m which tells us it must have made around $4m in previews. Which says Sony pushed it very very hard.
