Black List scheme throws Oz writers into global deep end

The 2019 Australian script writing opportunity kicks off again, linking Black List, Warner Bros and WA company Veerhuis.

Running since 2005, The Black List system set up by Franklin Leonard brought together the unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood which executives had read and liked, but passed on them. Since then, according to the website,

That is a very substantial success story, which also tells us that scripts written from the heart by screenwriters without the sticky fingers of executive and/or directors can be very valuable. While US writers tend to circulate ‘spec’ scripts in order to be hired on someone else’s gig, they can outflank the system.
