Rooney, whose career began at 17 months of age when he first appeared in his parents’ vaudeville act in New York City, died on Sunday. He had been suffering from ill health for some time.
A versatile actor who was just as comfortable dancing and singing as performing comedy or drama, Rooney’s film career began at six years of age as the title character Mickey McGuire in 78 shorts made between 1927 and 1933.
