persona 6 summer game fest predictions

Summer Games Fest 2026 has various clouds hanging over it. The games industry is currently on rocky ground, with threats to its stability, its creativity and its long-term growth advancing. Through all the troubles, one thing remains. Video games (and the people that make them) are very good and we should celebrate their goodness.

While the excitement around Summer Game Fest does come with some caveats – and they are important to acknowledge – it should also be a time to look forward, to the future of games. To see what’s on the horizon and dream about all the cool, quirky, and innovative titles in development around the world.

That’s what we hope to see in this year’s show.

For now, there are few confirmed details about what to expect for Summer Game Fest 2026, and that means one thing: it’s time for wild speculation, diving deeply into rumours and trying to ascertain what exactly will be announced.

Part of the fun of the show is trying to guess what’s included, and to dream big about possible sequels, spin-offs and more.

Here are five major predictions for Summer Game Fest, with a heaping dose of hope on top.

Summer Game Fest Prediction #1 – Persona 6 makes its long-awaited debut

A grand reveal for Persona 6 seems very likely for Summer Game Fest 2026. The most obvious clues are that Sega and Atlus recently had to take down various images which seemed to spoil the existence of the game. Given timing, this could relate to product listings that would naturally follow on from an SGF reveal.

As for what the game could be, reports suggest the images revealed a blond-haired boy in a school uniform, and a black-and-red-haired girl. It’s likely the adventure will follow in the footsteps of other Persona games, with the protagonists being school-age heroes who must defeat strange demons with their own demon pals.

While the timing of these leaks could still proved coincidental, it’s very possible Persona 6 is a final trailer for Summer Game Fest, or that it appears as a headliner during the show.

Summer Game Fest Prediction #2 – The Wolf Among Us 2 finally gets a new trailer

The Wolf Among Us 2 Status Hopes 2026

There is no mystery greater than what happened to The Wolf Among Us 2. First announced in 2017, then cancelled, then announced again in 2019, there hasn’t been an update on this Telltale Games adventure for over a year now. The status of the modern Telltale Games also remains unknown, as the studio reportedly faced significant layoffs recently, leaving a much tighter ship for future game development.

There is hope that even with this hardship, Telltale Games may survive. Their unique blend of choice-based narrative adventure games is rich, and there’s so many more stories to tell in the world of The Wolf Among Us.

It’s a faint hope, but one we hold dear. Please, please let there be an update on The Wolf Among Us 2 during Summer Game Fest 2026.

Summer Game Fest Prediction #3 – Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra gets a new release date

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is another strange mystery. This game has been in development at Skydance New Media for several years now, and was originally set to launch in late 2025. Right as it seemed like the game was gearing up for launch, as it got an array of showcases online, it was pushed back to early 2026, and then to ‘beyond early 2026’.

Surely a firmer release date is on the way for Summer Game Fest 2026.

The incremental nature of the delays suggest Marvel 1943 could still arrive this year. All it needs is a flashy new trailer to hype up the adventure, and reminder everyone that its concept is very cool: this is a Captain America and Black Panther team-up set during World War II.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates on this upcoming game.

Summer Game Fest Prediction #4 – Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 gets a first teaser trailer

The so-far-untitled Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 – finale to the modern Final Fantasy 7 trilogy – is likely to make an appearance during Summer Game Fest 2026. Square Enix is a long-time supporter of the Geoff Keighley-run global showcase, and the timing feels about right.

Per recent updates, this game is nearing completion, with a ‘full playthrough’ by developers now possible. That information isn’t usually released unless it’s to excite audiences, and/or because significant progress has been made.

We’d expect to see the very first teaser for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 during Summer Game Fest, hopefully revealing an official subtitle. A release window might also appear, but let’s keep our expectations in check for now.

Summer Game Fest Prediction #5 – Live service game expectations are tempered

Highguard Game Shut Down

For years now, Summer Game Fest has been a proving ground for new live service multiplayer games – and for years now, their reveals have been fairly notable failures. The vibe can be distilled in Wildlight Entertainment’s live service game Highguard, which was revealed as the ‘one more thing’ finale to end The Game Awards 2025.

A few weeks later, the game released to a lukewarm response.

Just a few weeks after that, it was shut down entirely.

In the modern era, where the live service market is absolutely packed with attention-demanding experiences – some of which have been entrenched for decades – it’s incredibly difficult for live service games to find an audience, particularly without anything new, original, or innovative to spruik.

This year, we hope the vibe on live service games is more tempered. Tone down the hype and preamble. No bold, bordering on offensive, stage appearances. Any live service game reveals going forward should be more aware of the market they enter into, with an understanding of their potential audiences.

Confidence in a project should never be discounted, but hype and bluster is never the way to go for major reveals like these. Show what makes a game interesting. Show why players should devote their time. Hopefully, lessons are learned from the rise and swift fall of Highguard.

At the very least, we hope for a diversity of games on show, with no one genre prioitised over another.

Summer Game Fest 2026 will air on the Game Awards YouTube and Twitch channels from 7:00am AEST on 6 June.
