Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is reportedly progressing in earnest, with game director Naoki Hamaguchi recently sharing he’s completed over 40 ‘full playthroughs’ of the upcoming game.
Speaking to Nintendo Life, the tenured developer shared a great excitement about what’s to come, and how far along the game is.
‘I can’t wait for as many people as possible to experience the game for themselves, and myself and the team are working hard to ensure we can create an unforgettable gameplay experience,’ he said.

How Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is progressing
While Hamaguchi didn’t reveal much about what to expect of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, he did share various tidbits about his inspirations and motivation for the months ahead.
Hamaguchi stated that he’s deep in the creative process of this ambitious project, with the full-on nature of it making it difficult to relax.
‘To be honest, it’s rare for me to make downtime with the intentional goal of “relaxing”. I play games and watch films, but sometimes I’m not even sure whether I’m purely enjoying them or engaging with them as part of my own creative process,’ Hamaguchi said.
To clear his head, he’s taken to getting off the train a few stops early on the way home, to walk for about 30 minutes.
‘While walking, my thoughts tend to connect in unexpected ways, and I’m able to make sense of things as a result. It’s also good for my physical health.’
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is reportedly now in the final stretch of development. In 2025, the story had been refined, and work on core gameplay had begun. Now, after ‘packed and eventful’ days of development, it does appear Square Enix is gearing up for a formal reveal and more news of what’s to come.
What we know about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3

As previously shared by Square Enix, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be the final game in the modern FF7 trilogy remake. The first title of this trilogy released way back in 2020, so it’s been a long road to this end chapter.
‘When I look back, the finish line of this project felt unimaginably far away when it first began,’ Hamaguchi said.
‘I, myself, have been involved with this project for over 10 years, but with this final instalment, I feel a deep certainty that we’ll be able to deliver an experience that’ll make people think, “I’m glad I stayed with the series until the end”. That’s something I feel in my heart.’
We expect Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be a definitive end for the modern FF7 saga, adapting the events of the original game with their own modern twists and turns, as with its predecessors, Remake and Rebirth.
‘For the many fans who have supported us over this long journey, I sincerely hope that the time you’ve spent following this story to its conclusion will stay with you, as something to cherish,’ Hamaguchi said.
‘My wish, from the bottom of my heart, is that we deliver a finale that’s worthy of that.’
While an exact title, release date, and plot details – beyond those revealed in the original 1997 game – haven’t been revealed yet, we are likely to learn more about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 in the coming months as Square Enix gears up to complete this ambitious trilogy of games.
