The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) opened with a lovely red carpet bash and party, screened some well-received opening films, and left the argy-bargy for a market forum.

The red carpet bash and opening ceremony went off well, much celebrated in the local media with endless photos of camera-friendly females in expensive frocks. A couple of men got a look-in hanging off elbows, but once the ceremony got under way it became a boys’ club affair pretty quickly.
