On Saturday evening, the spare Qantas Film and Television trophies left over from Friday’s Craft lunch were handed out at the Civic. The promised “storm the size of Australia” seemed to feel about Auckland as much of the rest of the country does, that it’s somewhere to be avoided.
Having braced for an even crappier than usual Auckland weekend, the weather gods delivered a mixed bag: some showers for the Aucklanders, wind to make the Capitalistas feel welcome but – thankfully – nothing to remind the Cantabrians of home. Regardless, the Civic remained its majestic self. On Queen Street, around 100 hardy souls gawked at those tripping down the red carpet.
