More Kiwis spent more time in front of the box in 2009 than ever before, and more time watching free-to-air telly than engaging with other forms of media. The NZ Television Broadcasters’ Council (NZTBC) has released figures on last year’s couch potatoes.

Every day, an average 2.94 million people tuned in, spending 3 hours 17 minutes goggle-eyed. The year on year increases delivered an extra 63,000 viewers, and this in a year that saw Days of Our Lives disappear from our screens. Astounding!
