Recent opinion on the state of children’s television in Australia has been pretty blunt. Animation is surviving, partly because the form makes for viable co-production, but live action and drama is in trouble.

The short answer to the panel question, ‘Is Australian kid’s live action really dead?’ is ‘over our dead bodies,’ according to Bernadette O’Mahoney from the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, Tony Ayres from Matchbox Pictures and  moderator Deidre Brennan, head of children’s at the ABC.

And since they were alive and fighting on the panel, the medium might have a future.
