The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts is a mere back bench committee of the Lower House, controlled by the Liberal Party. Unkind people would say it is a bunch of outsiders looking for something to do. 

It tends to be dominated by rural interests, with an interest in both the export trade and government subsidy. So, it became curious about the many devices to subsidise the screen sector, and set up an Inquiry into Factors Contributing to the Growth and Sustainability of the Australian Film and Television Industry.
