The Academy has announced the shortlist for the Best Documentary, Short Subject category. Seven of the films are from the US, the exception being Tali Yankelevich’s The Perfect Fit from the UK.
Three of the teams have previous Oscar nominations in the doco categories. Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady (The Education of Mohammad Hussein) were nominated for Best Documentary Feature in 2007 for Jesus Camp, which picked up awards at Silverdocs and Tribeca. Sean Fine and Andrea Nix (Inocente) were nominated for Best Documentary Feature in 2008 for War Dance. Jon Alpert and Matthew O’Neill (Redemption) were nominated for Best Documentary Short in 2010 for China’s Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of Sichuan Province.
