Over the last 48 hours, the situation surrounding The Hobbit was characterised by a lot of byting. Following Wednesday’s meetings came an awful lot of media releases and statements. What was said publicly, privately, what people said they said privately that differs from how it was reported publicly, and what people said privately (and asked us not to attribute or, in some cases, report at all), has woven a web that is increasingly difficult to escape from.

There is some considerable irony, for anyone who can maintain a sense of such, in some of the information revealed over the last couple of days. That Warner Brothers executives might arrive for their discussions on Labour Day must have caused some bitter smiles.
