For the first time in 45 years, next year will start without a fixture of the Hong Kong TV industry in place. 104-year old Sir Run Run Shaw, former head of Shaw Brothers and still chair of the Shaw-created network TVB, steps down on New Year’s Eve. Shaw, a contemporary of Jack Warner, formed Shaw Brothers (originally South Sea Film) in 1930, adding TVB in 1967.

The announcement was made in HK stock exchange filing which noted that Shaw will leave his positions as chairman, non-executive director and executive committee member at TVB. He will take on the role of chairman emeritus.
