ABC 2018 Federal Budget Cut – and a short history of ABC funding
With the 2018 Federal Budget apparent decision to reduce ABC funding by $84 million over three years, the ABC and Federal Government are again at loggerheads. While the reduction in the Budget Forward Estimates are real enough, there is a lack of clarity about what the cuts mean. For example, is it, as Communications Minister Fifield and Treasurer Morrison put it, a ‘freeze in indexation of the ABC funding’ 1, so ‘they can live within their means like families’ 2 or is it a substantial cut that ‘will make it very difficult for the ABC to meet its charter requirements and audience expectations’ 3.
