Silent Hill: Townfall, the next game in the long-running Silent Hill video game franchise, has been fully unveiled, with a new trailer and development showcase confirming new details about what to expect.
While the game remains undated, there’s been plenty revealed so far, from its core characters and inspirations, to the hopes of its development team.
What to know about Silent Hill: Townfall – quick links
Who is the protagonist of Silent Hill: Townfall?
As revealed during the latest Silent Hill Transmission and glimpsed during the PlayStation State of Play showcase, Silent Hill: Transmission is a first-person horror adventure starring a man named Simon Ordell, who must confront an array of horrors when he returns to the town of St. Amelia.
St. Amelia is a coastal town inspired by Scotland, and is plagued by a mysterious fog that brings all sorts of darkness. As developers at Screen Burn said during the game’s showcase, the town of St. Amelia is a character unto itself, influencing all aspects of the game, including Simon himself.
‘The series has always been home to characters carrying something heavy, and often complex, in their hearts, and Simon is no exception,’ Motoi Okamoto, Konami Digital Entertainment producer said. He is layered, uncertain, and deeply human – qualities that have always defined great Silent Hill characters.’
‘It’s clear from the opening moments of the trailer that Simon, our protagonist, has ties to the town of St. Amelia where Townfall takes place, and his return is the start of a difficult and emotional journey.’
Based on first looks at the upcoming game, Simon is dealing with guilt for some previous action, which resulted in a devastating event. The exact event will likely be the subject of the game’s mystery, but we have already seen teases of a medical incident, with Simon seen restrained by a drip cord, and one particular monster ejecting a drip from their chest.
Simon will use a portable radio to escape Townfall‘s key horrors
Beyond this, we know Silent Hill: Townfall will feature stealth-based first-person gameplay, with Simon charting the town of St. Amelia alone, and attempting to conquer the encroaching fog, which contains all sorts of paranormal entities.
To aid this quest, he’ll wield a ‘CRTV’ device, which resembles a handheld radio-TV. Tuning into various frequencies will allow him to perceive enemies in the fog, while intercepted messages will also reveal more about St. Amelia and the unfortunate fate that’s befallen the town.
Per Okamoto and John McKellan, writer and director at Screen Burn Interactive, the game intentionally leans into retro technology, with this designed to elevate the horror and relative helplessness of Simon as he attempts to survive.
‘While the Silent Hill radio has often been a passive device, alerting the player to nearby enemies through the sound of static, the CRTV takes this concept further,’ the team said via the PlayStation Blog.
‘Not only is it a useful tool in encounters – allowing Simon to “see” through the environment and locate nearby threats – but it also picks up signals from around the town that unveil more of the story and even help guide Simon through some of the other challenges he faces.’
Given the latest game showcase has revealed oozing, horrific creatures with ear-splitting shrieks and hyper-vigilant hearing, we can expect that portable radio will be very handy for players.
For now, that’s about all we know of Silent Hill: Townfall. We expect much more will be revealed in future, as Konami, Screen Burn, and Annapurna Interactive continue to polish the experience for a planned 2026 launch.
