PlayStation has confirmed the return of its State of Play games showcase with a new iteration set to air on 3 September, followed by a dedicated State of Play Japan offering ‘deep dives’ into games in development around Japan and Asia.
For now, we know this State of Play will feature first-party news and announcements from PlayStation Studios, as well as some from third-party game developers. The big headlining feature will be an ‘extended look’ at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, with this likely confirming a release date for the highly anticipated game.
Beyond this, the rest of the State of Play showcase is a mystery, which makes it all the more compelling.

What could be shown off in the new PlayStation State of Play showcase
Leaning into speculation, there’s plenty we can assume about the latest PlayStation State of Play showcase.
First up, it’s likely we’ll get a new look at Marvel’s Wolverine in this showcase, given it’s set to release less than two weeks after the State of Play, on 15 September. Expect a longer story-focussed trailer here, and possibly a new look at development.
As for other likely candidates and keeping with the theme of wolf-like anti-heroes, we could see the Wolf Among Us remaster in the State of Play as this is now dated for release on 29 October. Plus, the synergy would be neat.
We could also see more from other announced games Final Fantasy Resonance, Control: Resonant (both unrelated), Silent Hill Townfall, and others. The State of Play Japan has even more rich ground to cover, given the breadth of Japanese and Asia-based studios PlayStation typically works with.
Of course, surprises are always appreciated too, and there’s hope for plenty as we see what’s next on PlayStation.
