The PlayStation State of Play for September arrived with a handful of surprises, including major trailers for new and upcoming games. While it was a lower-key showcase than we’ve seen previously, news for games like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Until Dawn 2 was compelling, and the appearance of a rather cool Lego PlayStation was also neat.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches in April 2027
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was the final headliner of the PlayStation State of Play for September, with two trailers released for the upcoming game. One was focussed on combat and exploration, and the other confirmed the game will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 on 8 April 2027.
While we knew it would be launching in the first half of that year, it’s great to have a solid release date, and to see much more of the game.
As shown off in the longer deep dive trailer, there’s plenty of cool new features in this adventure, not limited to a ‘FITS’ system which allows you to dress up your characters to suit new combat styles, open world exploration by airship, and a companion Chocobo for travelling.
We’re likely to see much more from Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in the months to come, so stay tuned.
Digimon Story Time Stranger is getting major DLC
In the PlayStation State of Play Japan, a show dedicated to new games from Japan and Asia, it was confirmed the excellent Digimon Story Time Stranger will be getting new story DLC in 2027.
This expansion, known as A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, takes place three years after the story of Time Stranger and will introduce a brand new protagonist (as well as 50 new Digimon) who takes part in a grand new tale. The first trailer showed off sweeping new terrains to explore, while also teasing the arrival of new enemies.
Until Dawn 2 launches in January 2027
One of the bigger reveals for the PlayStation State of Play was that Until Dawn 2 will be releasing for PlayStation 5 on 28 January 2027. This game is a follow-on from the original, highly-acclaimed Until Dawn which featured an all-star cast (including the late Hayden Panettiere) as young travellers trying to survive horrors on a mysterious mountain.
Until Dawn 2 is a standalone story that will share sensibilities with its predecessor, as characters will confront all sorts of terror in the course of staging false paranormal activity. Beyond the date, the new trailer confirmed some of the main cast, including Australia’s Dacre Montgomery and Neil Newbon. The legendary Peter Stomare, who appeared in the original game, will also appear.
Gundam Rogue Orbit launches in March 2027
Gundam Rogue Orbit, a new mecha game starring iconic Gundam fighters, will officially launch for PlayStation 5 on 5 March 2027. The new trailer introduced some of the key characters that will define the action, with plenty of time devoted to just how cool the game’s mechs are.
As the description confirms, this adventure will let you ‘become the pilot you were born to be’ as you attempt to change humanity’s fate and fight for the future of the planet.
Here’s a bit more from developer Bandai Namco: ‘Gundam Rogue Orbit [is] a high-mobility action game that delivers a bold new take on Gundam, blending a fast-paced cinematic story with intense, hard-hitting combat in an all-new universe.’
Hunter’s Moon is a new first-person ‘historical folk horror’ game
One of the more compelling trailers during the PlayStation State of Play for September was for Hunter’s Moon, a new ‘first-person historical folk horror game’ coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 from new developer Twin Swans.
The game speaks for itself: ‘Hunter’s Moon is set over the course of one fateful night. Meet mummers dressed in folk costumes, evade capture by the witch hunters, and eavesdrop on a characterful cast of regular folk worn down by war and misfortune. Discover the secrets of this dysfunctional village on the brink as you embody an accused “witch” on the run for her life.’
The game launches on 26 October, and feels perfect for Halloween gaming.
