PlayStation has confirmed the return of its blockbuster State of Play games showcase on 3 June. One of the first major presentations of the Summer Game Fest season, the one-hour show will be filled with with updates, announcements and game reveals for new and upcoming games from ‘top studios’ around the world.
One of these studios is Insomniac Games, which will show off more of Marvel’s Wolverine, a major comics adaptation launching on 15 September.

Little confirmed but lots of speculation
Beyond featuring Marvel’s Wolverine, the rest of the upcoming PlayStation State of Play slate is a mystery. There’s plenty of room left on the gaming calendar for the year, and we’re hopeful the showcase will introduce a raft of new PS5 titles to spark some excitement about what’s to come.
There’s plenty of room for speculation about what could be in the show at least, considering the status of PlayStation’s biggest studios.
Naughty Dog has so far stayed quiet about its work on the upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its next major game following the release of The Last of Us Part II. That could change in the PlayStation State of Play, hopefully in the form of a new trailer or development update.
It’s likely too soon for Sucker Punch Productions to reveal their next project, as the team is fresh off the release of the excellent Ghost of Yōtei. Santa Monica Studio is likely in a similar position, as the team recently announced the blockbuster God of War Trilogy Remake.
Maybe we could hear something from Team Asobi, following the breakout success of Astro Bot in 2024. A sequel in development seems like a no-brainer, but decisions in the games industry aren’t always logical. It may also be too soon to release anything about potential new games.
Perhaps Guerrilla Games is better positioned to reveal more about what’s next, possibly in the form of the long-awaited Horizon Forbidden West sequel? Given its predecessor launched in 2022, it’s a possibility but don’t hold your breath.
There are also a number of other third-party studios that the latest PlayStation State of Play could elevate, and hopefully there will be plenty of novel surprises in store too. In any case, as one of the biggest State of Play showcases announced so far, there should be plenty of reasons to tune in.

Also on ScreenHub: Horror games vs horror films: Which is the more powerful medium for storytelling?
Horror, as a medium, is not homogenous. Under the banner is a plethora of unique, layered stories, all told from different perspectives, across TV, film, games, and beyond. The connecting tissue is esoteric: they tell stories that frighten, that horrify. On the other side of them, viewers and participants are changed.
