While the highlights will depend on personal taste, there were a few key standouts, particularly for folks who enjoyed Pokémon Pokopia, anyone looking forward to what’s next in The Legend of Zelda, and those keen to see what innovative indie studios around the world have been up to.

Pikuniku 2 is officially on the way – and it’s 3D
As a very nice surprise, Pikuniku 2 was revealed during the Nintendo Direct of June 2026. This is a major 3D sequel to the original Pikuniku, which was a refreshing and delightful platformer all about a tiny, armless being taking down a capitalistic hierarchy.
It appears this sequel will arrive with a similar sense of fervour, as the titular Pikuniku is back to explore a new world and find all of its darker parts. What’s most delightful about this series is how it combines its bright, happy aesthetic with its deeper exploration of society, for a game that looks cosy and cute but actually makes a strong politic statement about the world.
Pikuniku 2 launches for PC and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
House House’s Big Walk officially launches in August
Perhaps the most exciting announcement of the Nintendo Direct was that House House’s Big Walk is officially releasing for Nintendo Switch 2 (as well as PC and PlayStation 5) on 4 August. In this game, you’ll be tasked with solving a variety of puzzles – or just relaxing – with your friends by your side.
It’s all about the idea of play, and making your own fun in a world where hidden discoveries are just waiting to be found.
Notably, this is the next game from the studio behind Untitled Goose Game, and shares many of the same silly sensibilities as its predecessor. If you’re looking for a joyful, bouncy time, then you should keep an eye on Big Walk.

Final Fantasy is getting a new 2D-3D adventure game
Final Fantasy Resonance was surprise-announced during the latest Nintendo Direct. This is a 2D-3D pixel adventure game in the vein of Octopath Traveler that tells an entirely new story in the Final Fantasy canon.
You play as Rain, a knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt who must fight for peace in a world threatened by ‘a mysterious man clad in black armour’. To survive your many trials, you’ll need to survive through various combat challenges, and also learn to work alongside special glimmers of Final Fantasy heroes, including Cloud of Final Fantasy 7.
Final Fantasy Resonance is set to launch for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 22 October.
Kingdom Hearts 4 got a surprise new trailer
Kingdom Hearts 4 got a brand new trailer during the Nintendo Direct that confirmed it’s set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, whenever it eventually arrives. This game has been in development for several years now, with only sparse trailers to reveal details about its many upcoming worlds.
Like its predecessors, this new trailer focuses on the mysterious land known as Quadratum, which largely resembles real-life Tokyo. It also reveals a glimpse at a few new characters, including Yozora (returning from Kingdom Hearts 3) and some Organisation XIII members.
Kingdom Hearts 4 doesn’t currently have a release date, but we now know it will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2, as well as other consoles.
Pokémon Pokopia gets Expansion Pass and free update
In a lovely bit of Nintendo Direct news for Pokémon Pokopia fans, this game is set to get a three-part Expansion Pass, adding in new Pokémon, new locations, new mechanics and new quests.
So far, we know the first part of the Expansion Pass, launching in August, will feature new underwater gameplay and introduce new Pokémon, like Popplio and Mudkip. To accompany this release, all players will get access to new underwater exploration mechanics and some fresh items in a new, free update.
Following this arrival, the second part of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass will launch in late 2026, with the third part coming in 2027. These new expansions should keep Pokémon Pokopia fans very busy, with (hopefully) ample new Pokémon to befriend and house.
Pokémon Pokopia is currently available for Nintendo Switch 2.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a remake
The rumours were true! As confirmed during the Nintendo Direct, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially getting a major remake, complete with a new, semi-realistic art style. In the first trailer for this upcoming adventure, we got a look at some of the game’s storybook lore, as well as a glimpse at a very detailed Young Link, seen sleeping in his forest bed.
Surprisingly, while this trailer was only very short, Nintendo has confirmed the game is planned for release in 2026 – so we’re likely to get a much more in-depth look at the action in the coming months.
For those who missed out on Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64, and those who missed out again when it was remastered for the Nintendo 3DS, this should be a very neat opportunity to revisit the game, and to learn what makes it such an enduring classic.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches for Nintendo Switch 2 this year.
