Limited Run Games and Konami have announced the Marvel MaXimum Collection, a curated package of six retro Marvel arcade games. There’s plenty of nostalgia in this release, with the selection of games including console and handheld versions of iconic adventures.

As announced, here’s the full list of games includedin the Marvel MaXimum Collection:
- X-Men: The Arcade Game
- Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge
- Captain America and the Avengers
- Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage
- Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety
- Silver Surfer
Notably, the release will include arcade and handheld versions of these titles, so there’s actually 13 unique experiences here.
Of the titles included, the headliner is no doubt X-Men: The Arcade Game. I have very fond memories of watching this particular arcade machine going through its standby cycle at my local shopping centre in Mascot (which was only recently pulled down, although the arcade machines had long departed).
I was never allowed to play the game, but a child’s imagination is vast – and I remember sitting nearby, and imagining what it would be like.
Now, I suppose I don’t really have to wonder anymore.
Elsewhere in the upcoming collection, iconic hits like Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety are also sure to be appreciated. Both titles are well-regarded as two of the best Marvel beat-em-ups, with stories that are frequently referenced in comics media.
The other titles, Captain America and the Avengers, Arcade’s Revenge, and Silver Surfer are just icing on top of a very well-curated package.
New features in the Marvel MaXimum Collection
As shared by Limited Run Games and Konami, the upcoming Marvel MaXimum Collection isn’t only a multi-game port. Additional features include rollback netcode for smooth multiplayer online gaming, save anywhere options for players who want to pause mid-fight, and in-game rewind in case you put a foot wrong.
There’s a museum feature including various historic documents relating to these re-released games, such as flyer advertisements and concept artwork.
Players who need a helping hand will also find a cheat menu available, to get through the tougher segments of these adventures.
Whether you’re nostalgic or not, these modern re-releases feel extremely important. Marvel has a long history in the world of video games, and many of these titles helped to cement its reputation in this particular world – which continues to grow with new releases, like the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine.
For now, the Marvel MaXimum Collection doesn’t have a firm launch date, but we know it’ll release for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in the near future. Stay tuned for more details.
