Bluey’s Quest for The Gold Pen, the new video game adaptation of the beloved Bluey franchise, is officially set to launch for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on 28 May, after a brief period of mobile exclusivity.

Those keen to share an experience with young kids, or introduce kids to the world of gaming, will find plenty of opportunity here. The game is designed for all ages, with a focus on adventuring and puzzling.

What to know about Bluey’s Quest for The Gold Pen

This game adaptation, developed between Brisbane’s Halfbrick Studios, PM Studios, and Radical Forge, with oversight from BBC Studios and Bluey‘s own Ludo Studio, follows the titular hero and her sister Bingo as they embark on a grand quest.

Here’s the official description: ‘Bluey is drawing when Dad suddenly snatches the Gold Pen she needs to complete her story. A new world is brought to life as Bluey and her family gather around the kitchen table to draw together.’

‘Mum designs the strange and distant lands, Dad rocks up on his cool bike as self-declared King Goldie Horns, and Bingo transforms into her honk-happy alter ego, Bingoose, a plucky adventurer who even lays golden eggs. Bluey and Bingoose embark on an exciting quest to retrieve The Gold Pen from King Goldie Horns, with heaps of fun along the way!’

This game was developed alongside Bluey‘s original creator

What’s most notable about this particular adaptation is that The Gold Pen‘s story was written by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, so it’s more like an extension of the series.

There’s no particularly strict adherence to ‘canon’ in the world of Bluey, but events depicted here are weaved into the franchise’s world, so that playing the game is like taking part in an episode of the show.

Per its creators, The Gold Pen has been created as a ‘warm, memorable’ adventure to bring families together, across multiple levels charting magical new lands, as well as familiar locations.

There’s nine levels set across ‘snowy mountains, golden beaches, lush green forests, and iconic Australian landscapes, including the Outback’ and all are fully explorable, with secrets and treasures to uncover, and plenty of friendly challenges along the way.

Bluey holds a special place in the hearts of families around the world, and it’s been an honour for our team to work with such a cherished brand,’ Michael Yum, CEO of PM Studios said.

‘Everyone involved has brought genuine passion and respect for the series to this game, and it perfectly reflects what PM Studios loves to do – deliver warm, memorable adventures to consoles that families can come back to again and again.’

Those keen to jump into this Bluey spin-off won’t have to wait much longer, as it heads to launch on consoles in May.
