Bluepoint Games reportedly pitched a Bloodborne remake prior to its closure

A new report claims Bluepoint Games had pitched a Bloodborne remake, but it was rejected in the proposal stage.

Bluepoint Games, the studio recently shuttered by its parent company Sony, reportedly pitched a major remake of FromSoftware’s beloved gothic adventure game Bloodborne prior to its closure.

Per a new report from Bloomberg, the early 2025 proposal was treated seriously enough that it passed Sony’s approval, but it appears it was rejected as FromSoftware ‘didn’t want it to happen.’

What to know about Bluepoint Games’ plans for a Bloodborne remake

Sources speaking to Bloomberg described a cascade of events that led to the studio’s rejected Bloodborne remake pitch.

In 2021, Bluepoint Games was acquired by Sony, after years working alongside the company on an array of remasters, remakes, ports, and re-releases. It was tasked with functioning as support for Santa Monica Studio early on, and eventually sought opportunities to make its own games.

At the time, Sony was pushing for new live service games – titles that served players long-term, with new content delivered frequently – so it was reportedly tasked with developing a new live service game inspired by the God of War franchise.

Reportedly, this title evolved to become an adventure starring Atreus, Kratos’ son, as he fell into Hades, and fought against an array of enemies in hellish dungeons – although Bloomberg notes the idea was ‘in flux’ and was not narrowed by the time of the game’s cancellation, in January 2025.

Lacking a new project, Bluepoint Games reportedly pitched an array of ideas to Sony, including the aforementioned Bloodborne remake. As noted, a remake of this game has been long-rumoured, with fans particularly keen to see a new version with improvements on the original, compatible with and enhanced for modern consoles.

While the studio was reportedly told the ‘numbers made sense,’ the proposal was ultimately rejected.

FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki has previously stated a desire to remake Bloodborne

As speculated by Bloomberg, and previously hinted by former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, it appears that while FromSoftware is seemingly keen for Bloodborne to get the remake treatment, the studio wants to be in control of any new development.

Speaking to Kinda Funny Games in 2025, Yoshida said he though FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki was interested in a Bloodborne remake, but doesn’t want ‘anyone else to touch it,’ despite the studio being too busy to get hands-on itself. He believed PlayStation and Sony was keen to respect those wishes, despite ongoing fan demand for a new version of the game.

Given this belief about FromSoftware, and that it might be the limiting step on a Bloodborne remake, it’s unclear what comes next, and whether there’s even a path for the game to return.

FromSoftware is currently very busy on an array of projects, including ongoing development of Elden Ring Nightreign, and the release of The Duskbloods, which is a Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive game that seems to take some inspiration from Bloodborne, or at least, charts similar, gothic ground.

Those keen to see whether the studio will work on a Bloodborne adaptation in future, or finally approve a third-party pitch, will need to wait, knowing there’s an array of complexity in approving any future project.
