Focused though he is on deals and financial trends, László Kriston has to admit that some conversations with celebrities do have a place. After all, they too are a commercial tactic and they have decided opinions about the worlds in which they perform.

At the starry end of MIPCOM, it was a year of firsts. Abbie Cornish arrived at the Croisette promoting Discovery Channel’s first-ever scripted dramatic series, Klondike about the Yukon gold rush series. Andie MacDowell, as the star of Hallmark Channel’s first scripted series, Cedar Cove, championed the merits of wbolesome, feel-good entertainment, a missing product type these days amidst the excesses of exploitative reality soaps and dark police procedurals. She has a point.
