Lego recently announced the biggest evolution to the Lego system of play since the 1970s – with a new Smart Brick filled with sensors and a synthesiser. The idea it is that you pair the brick with Smart Tags (tiles) and Smart Minifigures equipped with radio-frequency identification (RFID) that tell the brick what kind of model it’s in, and what to do. For example, if it’s in a helicopter, it make helicopter sounds that speed up as you fly it around the house, or beep in distress if it’s held upside down. If the tech in a car and it runs over a Smart Minifigure, the Minifigure will make suitably displeased sounds. In a lightsaber battle, it makes the “vwooom vwooom” sounds that we all (young and old) make as soon as we pick up a lightsaber.
