With $1.4m committed over the next three years from 2013-4, these Screen NSW funds are modest. But they some of the most leveraged funds in the sector, and make a crucial difference to our screen infrastructure.
The Industry Development Fund provides the NSW contribution to local and national organisations like “Information and Cultural Exchange (Western Sydney), Screen Producers Australia, Northern Rivers Screenworks, Metro Screen, the Australian International Documentary Conference, the Australian Writers Guild, the Australian Directors Guild and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers” as the release lists them.
The Audience Development Fund sends programs galloping around NSW in initiatives like “the Young at Heart Film Festival’s regional tour to 45 towns in regional NSW, the North West Film Festival, showcasing the work of young filmmakers from rural communities in North West NSW, the Blue Heeler Film Festival in Muswellbrook and the Little Big Shots children’s film festival tour to Western Sydney and regional NSW.”
We all know that development and production involves a huge amount of energy and unpaid work, which is the uncounted investment by the sector in its own success. A similar energy fuels the community exhibition sector. which is both endearing and strategically important.
Deadline for both is Friday 2nd May 2014. Details here.
