Daryl Binning is a retired electrician, sound tech, cameraperson and projectionist know well in Western Australia.

But he has a more adventurous history, as The Age discovered in 2005, which ran from newsreel shooting to missile testing to setting up the first commercial film production unit in Papua New Guinea.

Having found some useful bits of one of the Kelly Gang films in 1970, he caught the history and preservation virus, but took it sideways.
