Deanne Weir is a media entrepeneur, former Pay TV executive, Screen Australia board member and part owner of Brisbane transmedia, transnational titan, Hoodlum Active. What happens when she casts a cool eye over the numbers and business plans to ask what sustainability means in screen media?

The concept of sustainability has driven business development and public policy in the screen sector at least since 2006. For most, commercial viability without government support is a hollow myth, so the sector quietly rewrote the notion to be: functioning businesses that continue to trade and show a profit in a stable government landscape with politicallty sustainable levels of support.
