Still reeling from last year’s successful debut, Revel 8 ups the ante in 2008 and opens its arms to Super 8 filmmakers around the nation. Now filmmakers from east to west have a chance to make their Super 8 mark in the 2008 comp. This year’s theme is ‘Loose Change’, the monetary kind.

Super 8 has a proud history of underground, indie and art film made by celluloid visionaries who revel in the aesthetic delights and alternative practice of the Super 8 medium. Last year’s Revel 8 winners were no exception – check them at www.myspace.com/revel8super8filmfest

Entries must respond creatively and innovatively to the theme of ‘Loose Change’ and can explore the genres of drama, documentary, experimental and animation. Films must be shot in sequence on a single cartridge of Super 8 film lasting just three and a half minutes – no editing allowed! Prizes to be awarded include Best Film, Best Music Soundtrack, Audience Choice Award, Best Super 8 Cinematography and Encouragement Awards.

All you have to do is shoot the film: we’ll process it and the enormously talented music composition students at the WA Academy of Performing Arts will compose and record a music soundtrack for the best 20 films. Stand by for a celluloid and auditory r-e-v-e-l-a-t-i-o-n at the screening night to be held at Perth’s unique Astor Cinema on Friday 11 July 2008.
