The Cry (Sunday nights 8.30pm, ABC and iview)

This four-part BBC/ABC co-production is absolutely riveting drama, according to Screenhub’s Rochelle Siemienowicz, who sat down for one episode and stayed for all of them. Based on the page-turning novel by Helen Fitzgerald, the psychological thriller follows a young couple, Joanna (Jenna Coleman, Dr Who, Victoria) and her husband Alistair (Ewen Leslie) who travel to Australia with their new baby to try to regain custody of his daughter from his ex-wife (Asher Keddie). When their baby disappears, it triggers an international media circus, a police investigation and a psychological breakdown. Structured around a series of flashbacks that gradually reveal the full and disturbing picture, The Cry is written by Jacquelin Perske (Love My Way), directed by Glendyn Ivin, and filmed in both Scotland and Australia. The Cry premiered in the UK on the BBC in September 2018 to more than 6 million viewers. It’s tight, tense and gripping.
