November 11, Armistice Day, stopped the Great War exactly a century ago. The anniversary is on this Sunday. Unlike our usual martial euphoria around Anzac Day and particular battles, this is the one celebration which simply focuses on peace and the monstrous slaughter across Europe, the Middle East, and the Atlantic Ocean which brought soldiers to die from as far as India, Peru, Tasmania, China, Africa and ultimately the United States.
