Lorraine Elliott died after a short illness caused by the re-emergence of cancer, a few days before her 71st birthday. For twenty years the wife of John Elliott, she was the Liberal member for the Victorian seat of Mooroolbark between 1992 and 2002. Her tenure covered the Kennett government, for which she was the Parliamentary Secretary for the Arts responsible to Kennett as the Minister, from 1996 until its defeat in 1999. Her politics and personal attitudes are well described here.

She was highly respected inside the Liberal Party, in which she was a moderate, and in the wider community. She was on the Board of the Australian Children’s Television Foundation and took up her ACMI role in July 2013, replacing John Thwaites.
