Weta Digital will work on Rise of the Apes for Fox, rendering the primates in what will be a first for the long-running franchise – apes not played by people in furry suits. The film, prequelling all others so far by being set in the present day, has a provisional release date of 24 June next year according to Fox.
It will not be the first time Weta has been down this track, having monkeyed around with similar ideas on King Kong. However, according to Fox, some of the technology developed for Avatar will be employed on the latest outing for the Apes.
