Tom Mockridge has taken over from Rebekah Brooks as Chief Executive of News international, following her resignation on the weekend, which was closely followed by her arrest. New Plymouth native Mockridge moves to England from Italy, where he’s been running Sky TV.

Rebekah Brooks, a former editor of the News of the World and now former CE of News International, quit late Friday (UK time), with News International announcing her departure in a well-crafted email claiming a deep sense of responsibility for the hurt the company’s actions had caused. Whether she was referring the family of the murdered girl whose phone the News of the World hacked or to the company’s shareholders was unclear.
