Simone Horrocks’ After the Waterfall opened on Thursday on 15 screens. Over the opening weekend it has more or less doubled its take on its NZ Film Festival outings earlier in the year.

The drive out to Piha, through twists and turns and over the occasional possum, mirrors the long journey Simone Horrocks’ debut feature After the Waterfall took on its way to the screen. It also mirrors the story of the film, of a long journey through difficult mental and emotional terrain, where the final destination is glimpsed only occasionally.
