Ubisoft has officially confirmed a major remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, subtitled Resynced, is currently in development, and heading to launch.
Word of this game has been doing the rounds for months now, thanks to various teases and rumours, all of which seemed to have a grounding in fact.

Where the Black Flag remake rumours started
The existence of the Black Flag remake was first shared at a convention by Matt Ryan, the actor behind protagonist Edward Kenway. Unaware he was being recorded, he reportedly shared with a fan that a Black Flag remake was on the way, hinting that players ‘may have to beat [the game] again’ in future.
Later, he told another fan that the statement had gotten him into trouble.
That wasn’t the end for rumours of the Black Flag remake. In February, Amazon listed an art book for the upcoming game which included placeholder assets but just enough text to suggest the remake was real and that news would be on the way shortly.
Now, Ubisoft has issued its own announcement, confirming the early rumours were on the money.
Ubisoft acknowledges Black Flag remake
‘Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it’s worth repeating: “Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.” Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails,’ Ubisoft said. ‘Keep your spyglass on the horizon.’
The statement was accompanied by a bird emoji, along with artwork depicting Edward Kenway sailing on his ship, The Jackdaw. This was the only tease for the Black Flag remaster included in the latest Ubisoft blog, but it will likely be enough to tide fans over until a more formal reveal.
Other updates for the Assassin’s Creed franchise
In this latest blog post, Ubisoft also provided additional updates for fans awaiting news of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Its recent leadership shakeup has led to a variety of changes, including the departure of some creative leads, so we expect a period of quiet heading into 2026.
However, there are a range of Assassin’s Creed games set to launch in the coming years, and most of them got updates in this blog.
Assassin’s Creed HEXE, a game believed to be about the Witch Trials, is currently ‘being built with great care’ by Ubisoft, under the new creative direction of Jean Guesdon, head of content for the franchise. Those looking forward to this game can ‘expect a unique, darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience, set during a pivotal moment in history.’
Codename Invictus, a PvP multiplayer experience, is ‘progressing steadily’ and is being described as ‘a new approach to multiplayer in the franchise’. Guesdon has pushed back on rumours about the game, suggesting it’s ‘not quite’ what people believe.
Assassin’s Creed Jade, a mobile game set in China, and targeting the Chinese mobile games market, also remains in development. Ubisoft is currently looking at bringing co-op into gameplay, as it reworks the experience.
We’ll likely hear much more about each of these games in future, so stay tuned to see what Ubisoft has planned.
