The WINGS fund, which provides funding to game developers, has launched a major Women’s Day Sale on Steam, spotlighting games created by teams that have been led by women and gender-marginalised developers.

Timed around International Women’s Day on 8 March, those who visit Steam between now and 15 March can grab a variety of new and classic games on sale, and also pop in for a variety of demos, all charting diverse experiences.

There are over 600 participating games in this year’s Women’s Day spotlight event, with many getting brand new demos and first looks.

Showcasing games by women and gender-marginalised developers

WINGS CEO Astrid Refstrup said: ‘So many of the bestselling, most critically acclaimed games in the world are being made by teams led by women and gender marginalised developers, and that detail isn’t always known.

‘The Women’s Day Event on Steam makes sure the hard work of these developers is celebrated and recognised, showcasing the incredible variety of genre, themes, innovation, and originality they’ve dedicated themselves to creating for players all around the globe.’

Since the event’s first edition in 2022, WINGS’ efforts to elevate games led by women and gender-marginalised developers have only grown, with the 2026 event featuring triple the number of the games seen in that first event.

That reflects the growth in the sector, with WINGS pointing to a recent GDC State of Industry survey that found the number of women and gender-marginalised developers has grown from 25% to 33% over the last four years.

Likewise, there are more women gamers than ever, with global data revealing 45% of game players are women. In Australia, a recent 2025 survey revealed 51% of gamers in the country are women.

It’s why it remains important to spotlight stories and experiences created by women and gender-marginalised developers, to speak to a range of personal narratives and perspectives.
