Prime Video has revealed a first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in its upcoming Tomb Raider TV series, with a particularly eye-catching image confirming direct inspiration from the classic video games.
Where before, Tomb Raider adaptations attempted a grittier interpretation of Croft’s classic looks, adding in layers, torn elements, and dirt, Turner’s Croft sports a near-exact replica of Croft’s original outfit, complete with belt buckles, a shoulder holster, fingerless gloves, and Croft’s iconic red circular frames.

Here’s the full first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, as revealed by Amazon.
While there remains intrigue about what Prime Video has planned, the first look has made a splash online, with very few critics of the character’s design. This is as faithful an interpretation of Lara Croft as we’ve seen so far, and it’s particularly nice to see those shades – an element which hasn’t yet made it into other live action costumes.
The design suggests this will be an adaptation that leans directly into Croft’s video games background, although we do already know that much of the story will be original.
In its recent casting announcement, Amazon confirmed the show will be inspired by the modern Tomb Raider games (as opposed to the classic ones, despite Croft’s appearance) and that only a handful of established characters have made it into the adaptation – Lara Croft, Atlas DeMornay, Zip, and Winston.
The rest of the characters, as Waller-Bridge outlined, are all-original ‘rascals’ who’ll aid or oppose Croft on her adventure.

As announced, the cast of Prime Video’s Tomb Raider is as follows:
- Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft, the titular Tomb Raider.
- Jason Isaacs will play Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle.
- Sigourney Weaver will play Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents.
- Celia Imrie will play Francine, the Head of Advancement at the British Museum, focused solely on raising funds and glasses of champagne.
- Martin Bobb-Semple will play Zip, Lara Croft’s long-standing tech support and friend.
- Bill Paterson will play Winston, the iconic Croft family butler.
- Jack Bannon will play Gerry, Lara’s personal pilot and snack collector.
- John Heffernan will play David, an exhausted government official who finds himself tangled up in Lara’s unusual world..
- Paterson Joseph will play Thomas Warner, a senior government official brought in to clean up an almighty mess.
- Sasha Luss will play Sasha, a fierce, deeply competitive new adversary of Lara’s.
- Juliette Motamed will play Georgia, a devoted, by-the-books curator at the British Museum, dedicated to the ‘proper’ preservation of history.
- August Wittgenstein will play Lukas, an illegal raider who shares history with Lara in more ways than one.
For now, Prime Video hasn’t released exact plot details, although we can assume the adaptation will involve Croft recovering artefacts for the British Museum, on a quest of sorts through strange and exotic locations. That might be vague, but would certainly align with the general gist of the Tomb Raider franchise, and all the challenges Croft has faced in the past.
With the first look at Lara Croft now revealed, we do expect to see more from Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series in the near future. It’s best to keep an eye out as Amazon prepares for its next big video game adaptation.
