The Wolf Among Us Remastered is a very neat little package. Not only does it deliver a refresh of the original game’s visuals, it also introduces a new cinematic noir mode for added drama, and it includes bonus behind-the-scenes materials, including some deleted content for curious (nosy) players.
The game alone remains great. The remastered edition ties everything together with a neat little bow, while preparing players for what comes next: the highly-anticipated, long-in-development, many-times-delayed, once-cancelled The Wolf Among Us 2.
Revisiting the original game in remastered form is a reminder of just how stylish, cool and entrancing the game is, particularly as a long-time fan of the Fables source material (even if Bufkin is still inexplicably green, and not blue).
Should any new player wish to enter this game’s unique world, this is the place to start.

Hands-off tweaks enhance the entire experience

It’s mostly by comparison that you’ll notice the differences between The Wolf Among Us and The Wolf Among Us Remastered. When you really look at the details, you’ll notice some meaningful, layered upgrades in Remastered that help to refresh the graphics for modern consoles and allow the game to be more streamlined and lag-free (which wasn’t the case for some versions of the original release).
The biggest change I noted in my playthrough was to the overall style of the Big Bad Wolf, protagonist Bigby Wolf’s animalistic dark side. He’s made much scarier in this particular game, with a more angular face and sharper, angrier lines to his brows.
While it is an unfamiliar difference, it’s not a bad one. The wolf now looks more wolf-like, and it’s likely the change was made to better align his appearance to that in The Wolf Among Us 2, which features an older and wiser Bigby taking on a new case and new criminals.

Elsewhere, the game remains fairly unchanged, for the better. Remastering here has been utilised to create detail in faces, to better showcase emotional range, and to add more dynamic lines and textures to clothing, furniture and buildings. Toad looks more toady, with new flecks and warts on his skin. Grendel is now more scaly and with slimier-looking skin. The Pudding and Pie looks more dazzling with refreshed lighting, also adding more drama to Bigby’s skirmishes into the club.
If you’re playing or replaying The Wolf Among Us in 2026, you’ll want to go with this upgraded version. If not just to see favourite characters realised in new and shiny detail, or to have the game performing to a higher standard, then simply to look forward to the future, to see what this new game means for The Wolf Among Us 2.
Laying the tracks for The Wolf Among Us 2
The Wolf Among Us 2 has been the dangling carrot of the new Telltale Games for quite some time. The game was actually first publicly announced in 2017, although this version of the game was eventually delayed, delayed and then cancelled when Telltale closed in 2018.
At The Game Awards 2019, The Wolf Among Us 2 was officially re-announced, with development underway at the newly reformed Telltale. It would receive a release date in 2023, then another one in 2024, then 2025, then 2026. Now, it’s finally set to release in 2027 – and while that word ‘finally’ may not mean much in this case, it does appear the Telltale team are now properly gearing up for launch again.

At Summer Game Fest 2026, The Wolf Among Us 2 received a brand new trailer that locked in 2027 as the release date, while also confirming a release on PC and multiple consoles.
This was also when the announcement for The Wolf Among Us Remastered was made.
Now that the game has been released, we know that plans are in full swing. Remastered launching to strong praise from fans is also a good sign that people are either experiencing or re-experiencing the game in anticipation for what comes next.
This particular part of the game’s Steam description is also very promising: ‘Your choices carry forward into The Wolf Among Us 2. Players who sign in to their Telltale Account while playing Remastered can carry those defining choices into the next season of Bigby’s story. Those who prefer to jump straight into The Wolf Among Us 2 can establish their past choices at the start of the game, with no previous play-through required.’
There is a direct linkage between the two games, suggesting a shared synergy in development.
The Wolf Among Us 2 now feels very possible. It almost feels real.
While it doesn’t yet have a firm release date, The Wolf Among Us Remastered launching feels like new hope for what comes next. After years of waiting and wondering, we just might see Bigby Wolf return for a brand new adventure soon.
Replaying The Wolf Among Us in remastered form brings such a strong hope for a brighter future for Bigby Wolf and his fairytale friends.
