It could be a big year for Nintendo’s Star Fox, with an array of new developments likely to spark the interest of long-time fans.

While never considered a flagship for Nintendo, the profile of Star Fox is likely to change significantly with the arrival of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, releasing on 1 April. Star Fox will make his big screen debut in the film, and he’ll be played by Hollywood star Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, The Running Man).

That’s not all. A recent leak suggests Nintendo is also planning to release a major new game in the franchise, which would be the first new Star Fox adventure in a decade.

Nintendo’s plans for Star Fox

The report about a new Star Fox games arrives courtesy of Nintendo insider and content creator Natthehate, who has developed a reputation for sharing legitimate information online prior to official announcements.

While leaks are always worth taking with a grain of salt, Natthehate is a known figure, and has reported accurate information in the past.

In a recent podcast, the creator shared several alleged updates for Nintendo’s future games lineup, claiming one of the company’s next big releases is a Star Fox title, set to arrive in ‘Summer 2026’ [Northern Hemisphere].

‘We’re getting a new Star Fox game in the very near future,’ Natthehate said. ‘I’ve been told it’s a classic style Star Fox game, the visuals are supposed to be very good, and I’ve heard it does have online multiplayer.’

Should this prove accurate, this mystery game would be a rare new adventure for the Star Fox crew, following in the footsteps of 2016’s Star Fox Zero for the Nintendo Wii U.

It’s wild to think there hasn’t been a new Star Fox game in that time. The series certainly has its fans, and while not considered as ‘mainstream’ as other Nintendo titles, there is appetite for a new journey.

Given the fervour around the announcement that Fox McCloud will be part of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, we can expect to see more attention on the franchise in the coming months, whatever Nintendo has planned.

Further leaks hint at a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Natthehate also claimed there will be no 3D Mario adventure released in 2026, despite fans clamouring for a Super Mario Odyssey sequel or spiritual successor. Instead, it’s alleged Nintendo is working on a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as part of celebrations for the franchise’s 40th anniversary.

Unlike the prior remake for Nintendo 3DS, this version is allegedly a complete top-down rework, which is expected to release in the ‘second half of 2026, approaching the holidays’. At this stage, however, all of these claims remain speculative.
