Nintendo has announced its wacky, Ditto-starring life simulator Pokémon Pokopia will officially launch on 5 March 2026, to kick off the year with cosy vibes.
This Pokémon spin-off is entirely different from other games in the franchise, with gameplay revolving around creating a paradise – planting trees, grass, and crops, terraforming land, decorating, and inviting your Pokémon pals to visit.
It’s drawn comparisons to Minecraft and Animal Crossing based on early trailers, with the added benefit of featuring familiar faces like Piplup, Eevee, Snorlax, Torchic, Oddish, Psyduck, and Magikarp.
All of these Pokémon may populate your world, as long as you keep them happy. They’ll also serve to help expand your home, as you can use their special abilities – Bulbasaur’s Leafage, Squirtle’s Water Gun – to transform terrain.

Pokémon Pokopia – What to expect of gameplay
Here’s the official game description, per Nintendo: ‘Play as a Ditto that has taken the appearance of a human! Find and befriend your fellow Pokémon and carve out a life for yourself by learning their moves to shape the land. Use Bulbasaur’s Leafage to make wild grass grow, keep it healthy with Squirtle’s Water Gun, and more. As nature flourishes, more Pokémon will appear for you to meet and learn from!’
‘Build homes, farm crops, and more in a world with days, nights, and varied weather. Collect rocks and wood to build with, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet… there’s so much to do here! No need to rush, though – go at your own pace and enjoy the journey. With a day and night cycle, varying weather, and other surprises, just taking a nap in your bed and letting time pass can be pretty relaxing.’
Once you’ve established your new home, you’ll be able to invite other players around, to hang out and explore together.
Pokémon Pokopia is new territory for the franchise
As mentioned, this is relatively new territory for the Pokémon franchise. While there have been ample spin-offs exploring new gameplay and settings – battle games, photo-taking games, detective mystery adventures, dungeon crawlers, and more – this is the first time we’re getting a slower-paced, cosy-minded life simulator game.
Given how popular cosy games (and life simulator games) are – particularly in an era where escapism is warranted – we expected Pokémon Pokopia will be popular experiment for Nintendo and developer Omega Force.
Those keen to jump in won’t have to wait long, at the very least.

The Frosty Games team has announced a special ‘Frosty Mini’ games showcase, set to take place on 10 December. As announced, this will be a shorter event than its predecessor (around 30 minutes), with time given to spotlighting around 20 games made in Australia and New Zealand.
It’ll be accompanied by a Steam event featuring 75 games from both regions, likely with demos and sale prices attached. It should be a very welcome celebration of locally-made games, to end out the year on a positive note. As previously noted by organiser Amy Potter-Jarman, who works alongside a team of journalists, developers, and curators on the show, the Frosty Games mission is to spotlight and celebrate the talented game developers of Australia and New Zealand, as they can be overlooked.
‘I think it’s true that average gamers don’t necessarily care where a game is made, but we also know it’s true that there are just too many games for people to wade through when browsing a platform like Steam, for example,’ Potter-Jarman said.
