Nintendo Direct officially returns on 12 September, with a major 60-minute showcase promising grand new reveals for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games. Given the length, this is set to be The Big One. The showcase everyone has been waiting for since the Switch 2 was announced (and since its launch showcase arrived with a relatively slim array of games).
We expect this upcoming showcase will speak to a brighter future for the console, laying out which games to expect in the coming months and years. While it might be too much to expect the showcase will be jam-packed with new first-party releases and strongly-wishlisted items, there’s no reason why you can’t hope for your biggest dreams to be fulfilled. Wish for the stars! They might fall, but at least they’ll prettily twinkle on the way down.
Whether Nintendo is set to unveil some shiny, glittery new games to everyone or not, the latest Nintendo Direct should be well worth watching. It’s one of the biggest showcases we’ve seen to date, and should include plenty of gems – perhaps even some unexpected ones.
Here’s all our big predictions for the Nintendo Direct set to air on 12 September. There is some unlikely wishes in this list, but as said, hope goes a long way.
Nintendo Direct: September 2025 Predictions
Holy Horror Mansion gets a full reveal
Holy Horror Mansion, Level-5’s cross-media Yo-kai Watch successor, is set to be fully revealed later in 2025. What better what to kick off than with a Nintendo Direct showcase revealing gameplay and/or a release date for the game tie-in? We’re ultra-keen Yo-kai Watch fans at ScreenHub, and any updates about this new, adjacent franchise are being waited on with wide-open eyes.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is finally dated

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam should get a new trailer during today’s Nintendo Direct. Previously, the game was flagged for 2024. Then, it was delayed without a new release date. So far, all signs still point to a 2025 release, and we’d love to see this confirmed.
If it does get a release date, we do expect it’ll be much later this year – possibly around December. If not, it could also slip to 2026. Whatever the case, any news would be appreciated.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream gets major breakdown

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was announced during the Nintendo Direct of March 2025, with a brief trailer confirming wild life simulator gameplay, and a release date of 2026. We expect the latest Nintendo Direct will feature this sequel in some form, likely with a firm release date attached.
At the very least, we’d love to see more of this game’s strange little beings, and how Living the Dream will build on the meme-like drama of its predecessors. We’re so, so excited for Tomodachi Life here at ScreenHub, and we can’t wait to see more.
A new Super Mario 3D platformer is announced

The Nintendo Switch 2 will not get away with being the only Nintendo home console without an exclusive Super Mario platformer. There’s just no way Nintendo isn’t working on a Super Mario sequel in some form, whether that’s a follow-up to Super Mario 3D World’s excellent Bowser’s Fury add-on, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Odyssey, or something else entirely. The heart wants what it wants, and we want Super Mario Odyssey 2 – but we’ll have to wait to see what Nintendo has planned.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gets its long-awaited sequel

Surely Nintendo has something in the works for Animal Crossing fans. Surely. While the franchise boom of 2020 was aided by the COVID-19 pandemic, enthusiasm for the franchise has been relatively sustained. It’s only a rare franchise that gets a global Sea Life aquarium crossover, after all.
Despite the franchise’s popularity, Nintendo hasn’t really done much with Animal Crossing recently. Hopefully that changes in the latest Nintendo Direct, with an announcement about a possible sequel. We’d even take a spin-off, at this stage. Anything for Animal Crossing would be well-appreciated.
Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop Collection announced

This feels unlikely, but how good would a Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop Collection be? These games are genuinely delightful, and given Tamagotchi Plaza demonstrated how well the mechanics can work on Switch consoles, we know these mini-games would look and feel good in remastered form.
As for why this would be unlikely to appear in the latest Nintendo Direct, it appears Tamagotchi Plaza was not a major success in Western regions (although it reportedly sold well in Japan). Still, the series is lovely, cosy fun, and it would be fab to see the original trilogy of games return.
A new Pokemon remaster is set for 2026

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were fantastic. As remakes of the Nintendo DS-era Diamond and Pearl, they brought back a warm nostalgia for all players, while updating and modernising the adventures for a new generation. Likewise, Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu/Eevee! were welcome updates for Pokemon Yellow. It seems a shame that other classic Pokemon games haven’t been given the same treatment.
Bring back Pokemon Black or White in remastered form for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, please. It would be a chance to revive these excellent games (perhaps in a bundle, with their sequels), and provide a welcome dose of classic monster-catching for everyone.
