MTG‘s new Reality Fracture set will redefine the multiverses of Magic, with new cards and a multi-colour Commander Deck painting a picture of a splintered world.
This is one of the more story-heavy MTG set releases we’ve seen in the year to date, with some lovely, flavourful narrative touches in the mix, shown off in card art and in pre-release discourse.
For now, we know the set will feature alternative universe versions of iconic Magic characters and creatures, all transformed by a mysterious spell initiated by Planeswalker Jace, who previously served as a heroic protector and magical ally. But tired of keeping the realms in order, Jace decides to remake them instead.
That move leads to all-out chaos in the multiverse as Planeswalkers are rewritten to embrace new colours of magic, and creatures of all kinds are caught in the melee.
You can see some of this chaos in ScreenHub‘s two exclusive card reveals for MTG Reality Fracture, both of which provide clues about what exactly Jace’s spell has done.
MTG Reality Fracture card reveals – quick links
MTG Reality Fracture introduces a new pegasus in jeopardy

Our first card reveal is for Shatterwing Pegasus, a common white creature that can strengthen other creatures.
For the flavour, this appears to be a pegasus who becomes caught in Jace’s spell. It circles above the region of Eradia, a warped wasteland surrounding a stronghold tower created by Jace, and is a symbol of hope for Hexhaven students caught in this locale.
In terms of gameplay, the pegasus will be useful for certain players running any pegasus-focused decks – mostly, anyone who’s running Thurid, Mare of Destiny as a Commander.
It’s fairly high cost (two generic mana, one white mana) for a 2/3 flyer, although its five-mana ability to buff other creatures by +1/+1 until end of turn might come in handy in a pinch.
All that said, there are other powerful cards that may buff your creatures sooner, and in that regard, Shatterwing Pegasus is simply a very good-looking new creature with some gorgeous, flavourful artwork.
MTG Reality Fracture introduces a solid new removal option
Our second card reveal for MTG Reality Fracture is for Surgical Precision, a common white sorcery card that offers nifty removal with a helpful alternative mode.

This is a one generic mana, one white mana spell that offers two options. You can play it to choose to either destroy a target creature with toughness 4 or greater (and this can be your own, if that would benefit your game) and gain one life, or play it to draw a card and gain two life.
This type of multi-modal low-cost spell is great in tense moments because you can decide how to deploy it best. If you’re facing down a massive creature and you need it gone, then Surgical Precision lets you destroy it for the greater good. If you’re running any sort of deck where putting creatures into your graveyard is useful, this might be a handy addition.
As an added bonus, if you’re desperate for card draw, it’s nice to have the option with this particular card.
Looking more closely at Surgical Precision, you’ll note a fun bit of flavour in the artwork. This depicts a battle between Vigorbloom mages that confirms more about this particular school of magic.
In the reality of MTG, the equivalent of Vigorbloom is Witherbloom, a black-green college of mages who draw on the magic of living beings. In this fractured reality, Vigorbloom is a school of white/green magics who are obsessed with experimenting with plant and human life.
As we see more card reveals in the coming weeks leading up to the release of MTG Reality Fracture, the most fun will be looking at all the new artwork and seeing just how strange the universe of MTG will become under the guidance of Jace.
