Games publisher Akupara has announced it will host its first ever showcase. Akupara Direct will take place on 6 September, comprising a 30-minute showcase of announcements for new and upcoming games, as well as an accompanying day of livestreams with developer play sessions, ask-me-anything windows and other community segments.

It’s all part of the publisher’s celebrations of its 10th year in operation, after beginning as a small but ambitious company. As the team says, it started with no outside investment and has since grown to help publish an array of award-winning and highly-acclaimed titles including Cabernet, The Darkside Detective, Cryptmaster, Montabi, The Procession to Calvary, and more.

The annual Akupara Direct has been in development for some time, and is expected to focus on showcasing the excellent titles currently in development with the publishing support of Akupara.

The show will be hosted by indie game content creator AlphaBetaGamer, and will reportedly feature a range of ‘world premiere’ trailers as well as firm release dates for upcoming, announced titles under the company’s banner.

That could include the highly anticipated sequel to the Dark Detective franchise, Airframe Ultra, Bracer, Aokaki, or Echo Weaver, but it could also reveal other surprises under the Akupara banner.

Once the livestreamed showcase concludes, those keen to see more of the publisher can learn more from those aforementioned developer play sessions, AMAs, and other livestreamed events.

How to watch the first ever Akupara Direct

The first ever Akupara Direct will stream live the Akupara Games Twitch and YouTube channels. For now, an exact time has not been announced, but it will be on 6 September (PT).

In the meantime, there’s plenty to anticipate. The studio has a reputation for supporting all sorts of strange and wonderful games to release, with many being incredibly bright, fun and unique among their peers, with interesting mechanics, under-represented characters, artful storytelling, humour, and everything else that makes a great game great.

While we wait for the upcoming Akupara Direct showcase, you can get a glimpse of what’s in store with ScreenHub‘s preview of upcoming mystery point-and-click adventure The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon.

ScreenHub: The Darkside Detective 3 preview: Twin Peaks-like mystery series still has the juice

The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon is shaping up to be just as silly, over-the-top and completely wonderful as its predecessors. Thanks to Spooky Doorway and Akupara Games, ScreenHub was recently able to get hands-on with the first chapter of this long-awaited sequel, and it’s a lush, irreverent point-and-click mystery that really sets the scene for the kooky adventure ahead.

The Darkside Detective franchise is a series of point-and-click adventure games inspired by Twin Peaks, as well as other popular sci-fi, fantasy, action and horror media. You guide Detective McQueen, a stand-in for Kyle MacLachlan’s Dale Cooper, and Officer Dooley, a stand-in for Harry Goaz’s Andy Brennan, as they investigate a series of increasingly strange, magical cases.

The first games featured cases inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Die Hard, Dawn of the Dead and Psycho, with each offering the chance for players to explore strange worlds and experiment with classic point-and-click gameplay.
