SWANA Film Festival director: ‘I just want people to have fun’

Hajer Al-awsi, an Iraqi-Australian producer, has taken the reigns on reshaping the Arab Film Festival into the SWANA Film Festival: a three-day event for Southwest Asian and North African films.

Hajer Al-awsi is an Iraqi-Australian writer and creative producer. With a history of curating and marketing art exhibitions and festivals, she joined forces with Western Sydney’s Arts and Cultural Exchange (ACE) to direct the very first SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African) Film Festival.

SWANA Film Festival, which opens this Friday, promises to be an epic three-day festival – showcasing over 20 films spanning across Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Armenia, and Syria.
