Two years after NBCUniversal International acquired most of Matchbox, Chris Oliver-Taylor contemplates the slate, the role of Screen Australia in television, and some perks of the NBCU family.

How does a big conglom sets its eyes on a small indie company at the far end of the world? “They had a very strong presence in Australia with Universal Pictures and channels and they were looking for a company that could generate fantastic content into their broader catalogue and channels around the world,” Chris Oliver-Taylor explains as he rests his eyes on the marvelous, sun-drenched vista of the Cannes harbor and the sea from the Palais’ terrace, rented for MIPCOM by NBCU. “Also they have their own formats, to play them back in Australia.”
